The Buc days will continue in Corpus Christi in 2021 amid a pandemic

The Buccaneer Commission announced on Monday the events planned for this year in 2021.

CORPUS CHRISTI, Texas – After a year of postponing or canceling many events, a community festival that many love and enjoy is back, Buc Days.

On Monday, the Buccaneer Commission announced that the celebration is back along with the event schedule.

“We believe the event itself is an event that we spent a full year without. If you will, it’s time to get back in the saddle,” said Johnny Philipello, President and CEO of Buc- Commission.

Although the event is back, Philipello says it will look a little different this year due to the COVID-19 pandemic that begins with the barbecue in the bay being canceled

“It’s an event we definitely love, but it’s for big parties that we just knew was very difficult to distance ourselves socially,” said Philipello.

The junior parade is another event that won’t be happening this year, but don’t worry, the night parade is not happening anywhere

“We will have limited seating in the arena, socially distant so families can sit together with a reserved ticket and two meters between the next group,” said Philipello.

“What we’re encouraging is families who put a television in their backyard and enjoy it as if they’d been grilling right on this parade route for many years.”

The rodeo will also continue as planned, but is limited to approximately 35% capacity.

“You can still come and enjoy a two and a half hour rodeo. You won’t be able to see the concerts this year. Financially it just didn’t make sense with this limited capacity, ”said Philipello.

Although there won’t be concerts this year, there will be two days of bull riding and you may still feel dizzy with a ride or two at the Carnival.

The rides will be more spread out, we will have less capacity for the event, we will have queues when you jump on a ride, you will be provided with sanitary wipes that you can clean anywhere you want to touch and when when you get off, you have a hand sanitizer available, ”said Philipello.

Philipello says they want to make sure everyone can have fun while they stay safe.

“I’m telling you we are not pioneers here, we take events from other places that have worked successfully and implement them here,” said Philipello. “It’s not this big, massive event that comes together all at once, but rather parts of events that are socially distant.”
