WACO, Texas – The No. 8 Baylor women’s tennis team opens its NCAA tournament on Friday at 5 p.m. at home against Texas A&M-Corpus Christi at the Hurd Tennis Center.
The bears will host three other teams and will serve as the number 1 for the Waco Regional. They welcome Duke # 2, Alabama # 3, and the islanders.
The four-team region kicks off at 2 p.m. on Friday when Alabama (15-6) and Duke (12-12) compete against each other. The winner of this game will meet the winner of the bears (23-4) and the islanders (22-4) at 5 p.m. on Saturday
The winner will advance to Orlando, Florida where all games, Sweet 16 and beyond, will take place. Baylor was slated to win the NCAA tournament a year ago with a 10-2 start to the year before the season suddenly ended due to COVID-19. As a result, Friday’s game will be the first return to the national tournament since 2018, and it will be the first time since 2017 that Baylor has hosted a four-team regional team since 2017.
Entry to the NCAA tournament in Waco is free for both men and women. The speculators’ capacity is limited to 50 percent. No spectators are allowed in the event that the weather pushes the games at the Hawkins Indoor Tennis Center indoors.
