The plastics and chemicals company LyondellBasell has selected the person who will lead the Corpus Christi production complex.
Michael Middleton has been appointed as the new site manager, the company said in a statement on Thursday.
He replaces Alicia Matus, who was recently hired as Lyondellbasell’s new director of global operational excellence, process security and quality. Matus will work at both the Houston headquarters and Corpus Christi.
Middleton has nearly three decades of petrochemical manufacturing experience and has worked for LyondellBasell and its predecessor Equistar for the past 27 years.
Prior to assuming the new role in Corpus Christi, Middleton was Operations Manager for LyondellBasell’s La Porte Complex near Houston.
LyondellBasell’s Corpus Christi complex is located northwest of Corpus Christi between Interstate 37 and Highway 44 and employs approximately 370 people and contractors.
The 2,500 hectare facility is responsible for the production of ethylene and propylene. Both of these materials that are vital in the manufacture of items such as food packaging, auto parts, building and roofing materials, and large home appliances.
Middleton has worked in other roles within the company including operations, engineering and maintenance management. Originally from Tuscola, Illinois, Middleton earned a bachelor’s degree in mechanical engineering from the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign in 1993.
