Here’s a new reason to head upstairs: Fried Macaroni and Cheese Balls at GrubTown.

The cafe opened in the Backstreet Food and Beverage Court at 711 N. Carancahua St. GrubTown in early August. It specializes in burgers and tacos, but also has healthy options like salads and wraps.

GrubTown’s burger patties are a mix of brisket, short rib, and steak. The cafe also sells coconut shrimp tacos and street tacos.

“(Food) that we saw, tried and really enjoyed – we teamed up and created our own variation for our menu,” said co-owner Lee Ortiz.

The friends Ortiz (27) and Steven Sandoval (28), both from Corpus Christi, wanted to open the café for two years. They met four years ago when they were working together at the Corner Bakery Cafe.

“We saw how we cooked each other and when we were busy at this bakery we worked hard to keep them afloat,” Ortiz said. “If people do the same and are good, why not partner up?”

“We’re excited to deliver fresh flavors with fresh ingredients and to offer something good to the community,” said Ortiz.
