Frankston's Burton was crowned State Champion in Corpus Christi

Mar 22 – CORPUS CHRSITI – The Frankston Maidens returned from the Texas High School Women’s Powerlifting Association state championships with trophy-case hardware after Ja’Miyah Burton finished first in their Corpus Chrsti weight class.

Frankston’s Natalee Prda also took seven places in her weight class at the 2A class 2A powerlifting state championship.

The 105 headling weight class was Burton, who recorded a total weight of 645 pounds. Burton had the second best squat (240) and bench press (115) but outperformed the competition with a deadlift of 290 pounds.

Burton improved on her regional lift in all three categories, lifting a total of 570 pounds and finishing second. She improved her squat and bench press by 15 pounds while improving her deadlift by 45 pounds.

Prda reflected her regional lift of £ 585 when she finished seventh at the state meeting.

Elkhart’s Lauren Simpson took home a second medal for the Lady Elks at the 3A State Championships.

Simpson, 165, weighed 930 pounds, with her 405-pound-square foot beating the competition by 45 pounds. She hit 195 on the bench press and 330 on the deadlift. Simpson improved her regional meet score by 40 pounds – increasing her square meter by 20 pounds and her bench press by 20 pounds.

Lady Elk Jordan Stephens (114) finished fifth in her weight class with a total weight of 710 pounds. She posted 270 pounds squat, 165 pounds bench press, and a 275 pound dead lift.

Guin Young (105) finished ninth overall in her first condition with a total weight of 535 pounds.

Elkharts Kinley Haas and Sarah Mann took 10th and 11th place respectively.

Haas totaled 710 pounds while Mann lifted 690 pounds.
