Cowgirls sweep double headers with A&M Corpus Christi on Friday

CORPUS CHRISTI, Tx. (KPLC) – McNeese softball coach James Landreneau criticized his team after playing against Sam Houston last weekend. Since losing five games, including losses to Texas and Texas A&M, the Cowgirls are 3-0 thanks to a double-header sweep from A&M Corpus Christi on Friday.

In the first game, McNeese rallied with two runs in the seventh to force additional innings before Padyn Williams RBI single gave McNeese a 3-2 win in the ninth inning. The Cowgirls had reached their finals and with a 3-2 result, former Sam Houston Lady Bronco Jil Poullard drilled a two-run blast that would tie the game.

Valparaiso Transfer Jenna Edwards would walk the distance in the game and throw every nine innings, allowing only two deserved runs out of six strikeouts.

Game two’s script brought much less drama to the Cowgirls as McNeese took a 3-0 lead on the way to a 6-1 win in the fourth inning. Williams was a key tooth in the bowl once again when she knocked Lopez home on an RBI single in the second inning.

Toni Perrin would add an RBI triple in the fourth to work with another Williams RBI to allow McNeese to control the game.

In the circle, it was Whitney Tate who set up an entire game that allowed these three runs to be adequately insured. Tate took up a couple of strikeouts, allowing only a single run in the final inning.

McNeese will go to the series sweep on Saturday lunchtime.
