Corpus Christi will be featured shortly on the Food Network for its healthy options.
Award-winning chefs Andrew Zimmer and Michel Nischan were spotted Monday morning at Hester’s Cafe and Coffee Bar in Lamar Park.
Hester’s owner Jason Rodriguez said he was contacted by the Food Network about a documentary about healthy foods.
Zimmer and Nishan came by the restaurant with a camera team and ordered the breakfast dishes ‘Anita O’Day’ and ‘Corpusborg’.
“I think it’s a compliment to our city and to us,” said Rodriguez.
Rodriguez and his wife Hester own three Hester locations in Corpus Christi.
“Our food is from the ground up, we’ve always pushed it, and it’s healthy. Well, not everything, but most of it,” said Rodriguez, laughing.
Hester’s serves breakfast, lunch, coffee, and desserts.
It is not known which other restaurants the chefs feature in the documentary or what the series will be called.
Zimmer also made a stop over at Julian’s BBQ on 1818 Baldwin Blvd. that weekend. He went to Instagram to share his food.
The video is titled “Pretty tasty BBQ at Julian’s” and shows a chicken sandwich, brisket, ribs, chicken and a monster rib of beef. Zimmer talks about the restaurant’s two barbecue sauces and compliments the spicy one.
As of Monday morning, the video had more than 22,800 views.
Zimmer is an American television personality, chef, food writer, and teacher. He is the host of the Travel Channel series Bizarre Foods with Andrew Zimmer.
Nishan is also an author, food justice advocate, and founder of Wholesome Wave, a national organization that works to provide affordable access to fruits and vegetables for people struggling with hunger.
