Corpus Christi AFT talks about Teacher's Appreciation Week

CORPUS CHRISTI, Texas – This week is Teacher Recognition Week and begins with words of encouragement from the President of the Corpus Christi American Federation of Teachers.

Dr. Nancy Vera said teachers have been through a lot, including uncertainty about the COVID-19 safety procedures put in place by school districts.

Vera said the district lost 30 teachers late last year who decided stress and insecurity were too great and she expected more to retire after the current school year.

“I hope the state of Texas and our local school districts here during Teacher Recognition Week not only cherish teachers with all of the little gifts we get and all, but remember that we are unifying for all of the work we deserve good wages, “said Dr. Vera. “We need good salaries.”

Vera said today’s teachers have done what no other generation of teachers has done before by teaching virtually in class and in the middle of a pandemic.
