CORPUS CHRISTI, TX – In preparation for hurricane season that began June 1, the city’s public works department is distributing free sandbags to the public in four different neighborhoods on select weekends starting in June.
City crews will distribute 3,000 free sandbags at each location for a total of 12,000 sandbags at the four different locations. The residents receive a maximum of seven free sandbags per vehicle. Drivers are asked to clear an area in the trunk or in the loading area of their vehicle to stow the sandbags. Drivers and passengers must remain in their cars during loading.
The first event starts this Saturday, June 12th, from 8:00 a.m. to 12:00 p.m., or until all bags are given away, order West Guth Park, is located 9700 upstream road. The second event will take place on Sunday, June 13th from 8:00 a.m. to 12:00 p.m., or until all bags are given away, in JC Elliott transfer station, is located 7001 Ayers Street.
For the final two events, Public Works crews will work with NAS-Corpus Christi military volunteers to distribute the pre-filled sandbags. Both events take place on Saturday, June 19, from 8:00 a.m. to 12:00 p.m.. (or until all pockets are distributed). The first location is in Waldron Field, 3746 Waldron Street. The second location will be on City Service Center on Civitan, 5352 Ayers Street.
